Ways to change the lighting in your home

Your home’s lighting serves two purposes: it enables you to see, and it adds to the overall ambiance inside your home. Changing and/or updating the lights in your home is an easy, cheap way to give your space a new look and feel. If you’re ready to change it up a bit, keep reading for some fresh ideas to upgrade your ceiling lights.

Track Lighting

Track lighting is a great option if you’re upgrading on a budget. Available in a variety of styles and colors, track lighting is perfect for task, ambient, and accent lighting.

Also called rail lighting, track lighting can be used in just about any room. It is energy efficient, highly customizable, and easy to install.

Recessed Lighting

Recessed lighting fixtures mount flush in the ceiling, which works well in homes with low ceilings. These lights are ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, offices and bedrooms.

A popular feature installed with most recessed lighting fixtures is a dimmer switch. This allows you to change the mood of the room quickly and easily. While the majority of the housing is hidden in the ceiling, recessed lighting still comes in a variety of styles and colors to match almost any décor.

Chandeliers – those beautiful light fixtures that hang from the ceiling – make quite a statement no matter where they are placed. From the simple to the ornate, the sky’s the limit when it comes to choosing the right chandelier for your home.

Chandeliers can hang over a dining room table or grace a grand entryway. They can be made of metal and glass and can even display dazzling gems and crystals.

Pendant Lighting

Pendant lighting allows you to put light exactly where you need it. This type of lighting comes in a limitless array of designs and colors, which make it the perfect way to upgrade the lighting in your home.

Pendant lights hang from the ceiling on rods or chains to bring light right down to where you need it most. Even after the lights go out, pendant lighting is still a lovely attraction in any room it’s used in. Pendant lights work well over kitchen sinks, dining tables, and anywhere else you need direct light.

Flush-Mount Lighting

Of all the lighting available, flush-mount lighting is probably the most common. This is because there is a wealth of designs, styles, colors and materials available to fit any budget. Furthermore, because these fixtures fit so closely to the ceiling, limited space isn’t really an issue.

Because flush-mount lights occupy little space, they are perfect for every room in your home. Consider the color scheme in the room in which you want to upgrade lighting, and then head to your local home improvement store or online to find a flush-mount fixture to match. There really is no limit to what you may find.

A Word of Advice

If your budget doesn’t allow you to completely replace your old light fixtures with new ones, you can still give the air of an upgrade by painting them.

Remove the old fixtures from the ceiling and grab yourself a can of spray paint. You’ll be surprised at the difference a coat of paint makes.

Lighting is important in a home, but not just for the sake of seeing. It also enhances the décor of the space. If you’re ready to upgrade the lighting in your home, be sure to consider the suggestions above.
