Decluttering Tips for an Immediately Tidy Home

We all need a place to come home to at the end of the day to rest, relax, and rejuvenate. Unfortunately, many of us come home to some form of clutter, chaos, and mess. Clutter, as explained by many an expert, can lead to stress, which can be counterproductive to relaxation. Too much stress can be hazardous to your health.

So, what’s a person to do when their home is perpetually cluttered?

By following the tips below, your constantly chaotic home can feel a lot tidier and more comfortable in a flash.

Buy A Shoe Cabinet/Caddy

Shoes strewn all over the place can be a nightmare. Not only does it look untidy, but it’s also a tripping hazard. To keep shoes corralled, buy a shoe cabinet/caddy, place it in your entryway, and encourage everyone to use it. If you also encourage visitors to take their shoes off when entering your house, you’ll notice a lot less dirt on your floors, too.

Keep Counters And Benches Free Of Clutter

Flat surfaces like countertops and benches have a way of collecting all kinds of things quickly. Make it a daily practice to clear these surfaces of things that don’t belong to keep the space looking neat and tidy.

Put Everything Where It Belongs

One of the biggest problems in most households is a lack of storage. Ideally, however, everything will have a place once it enters your home. Your coat hangs on the hook, your keys go in a bowl, your shoes go in the cabinet, etc. Making sure everything is where it belongs when not in use will help your home feel less cluttered.

Get Rid Of Stuff

If you haven’t used or worn something in the last year, get rid of it. This sounds brutal, but if you haven’t looked at it in a year or more, you obviously don’t need it. You can throw your unwanted stuff away, donate it, or sell it.

Rent A Storage Unit

If you can’t get rid of things for sentimental reasons or whatever, but you have no room to keep them, rent a storage unit to put them in. This is a logical solution until you move or otherwise have space to keep them at home.

Make A Rule

Every time you bring something new into the home, something old has to leave. Make this a rule for everyone in the home to keep clutter to a minimum.

The simple act of living in a home can cause clutter to build up quickly. With a will to declutter and the helpful tips above, you can have your home feeling tidier in no time.
