Hacks to Make Laundry Less of a Chore

Very few people will actually admit to enjoying doing laundry. In fact, laundry day is something most people dread and put off until only that pair of holey underwear your-mom-would-die-if-she-knew-you-were-wearing-them remains in the drawer.

While we aren’t going to do your laundry for you, the list of laundry hacks below will definitely help make the task a little less of a chore.

1.  Sort Your Laundry Your Way

No one says you have to sort your clothes by color. If something else works for you, do it. For example, you may find that sorting clothing according to the soil level is more effective for your family. Or maybe sorting according to person is a better idea. Whatever sorting method makes sense to you.

2. Add Vinegar To The Wash

Vinegar is a natural odor eliminator and fabric softener. For the freshest and softest towels and sheets, pour half a cup of distilled vinegar in each load.

3. Toss The Detergent Lid In, Too

You know how the lid of the liquid laundry soap gets sticky and gross with dried-on detergent? Remedy the issue by throwing it in with the next load of laundry. It’ll come out nice and clean. Just be sure to remove it before you put the load in the dryer.

4. Save Time In The Dryer

Waiting for the dryer to buzz can be frustrating. You can help your clothes dry faster by tossing a dry, clean towel in the mix.

5. Get Rid Of Wrinkles Fast

No time to run something through the dryer to remove wrinkles? No problem! Simply make your own wrinkle releaser with ingredients you probably already have.

In a spray bottle, combine 2 cups water, 1 tablespoon white vinegar, and 1 teaspoon hair conditioner. Give it a good shake to combine everything and then spray your garment until damp. Lastly, pull the fabric to smooth the wrinkles.

6. Use Vodka To Freshen Musty Clothes

Vodka is a natural deodorizer. It works great to remove odors from clothing you’ve worn once but don’t have time to wash before wearing again. Keep a spray bottle of vodka handy and give worn clothing a spritz to freshen them up.

7. Invest In A Mesh Bag For Socks

You know those mesh bags meant for keeping delicates safe in the wash? They also work great for keeping things like socks from disappearing into the abyss as always seems to happen somewhere along the way on laundry day.

Simply keep a bag next to the washer and toss pairs of socks in as you sort. When the bag is full, zip it up and place it in the washer. Just think of the money you’ll save not having to replace socks!

8. Make Hand Washing Easier

If you’re like a lot of people, you avoid buying hand-wash only items because it’s a pain to wash them by hand. With this hack, however, you’ll be buying hand-wash only clothes again.

Just add a few drops of your favorite laundry detergent to a salad spinner and place your hand-wash-only piece(s) inside. Close it up and give it a spin. The nice thing about this method is you can use the salad spinner to wring out excess water, too.

Not many people look forward to laundry day, but with a few simple adjustments, you can make it tolerable. Use the hacks listed above to make doing laundry less of a chore.
