How to Store Bikes in an Apartment or Other Small Space

Are you a bike enthusiast with hardly the space for one bike much less several? If you live in a small apartment and have a passion for biking, storing all your beloved bicycles could pose a real problem. To help you enjoy your passion and live comfortably in your small apartment, here are a few key places to store your bikes that will maximize your space.

The Closet

The closet is a great place to store your bike because it keeps it out of sight. Unfortunately, if you have a lot of clothes, this might be a problem as grease from the chain or dirt from the tires could get on your nice clothes.

If you do have a lot of clothes and still want to store your bike in the closet, consider purchasing a wardrobe for the clothes instead.

Behind the Couch

For people who love having their bikes on display, utilizing the unused space behind the couch is a great idea. However, if you prefer not to have the bike out for everyone to see, this storage idea isn’t for you.

The Balcony or Porch

The balcony or porch of your apartment serves as a great bike storage area – with a few additions, of course. If you store your bike in the great outdoors, be sure to use a bike cover or a bike tent to protect it from the weather. Also, if there’s any chance that it could be stolen, be sure to lock it up securely each time you’re done riding it.

Bike Stands and Clips

Since most landlords won’t let you hang anything from the wall or ceiling, traditional bike hooks won’t work in an apartment. Instead, look for self-supporting bike stands (many can hold more than one bike) or bike clips that hold bikes securely without damaging the wall. Many people like using these methods in the bedroom.

Ultimately, if you live in a small apartment, you may need to consider downsizing to just a single bike to save space. Whatever you decide, though, the storage ideas above will help you store your bikes in the least amount of space.
