How To Streamline Your Space To Save Time And Energy Every Day

Does the clutter in your home make you feel stressed or anxious? It’s common for cluttered homes to feel less comfortable, but thankfully, with a few strategic organizing hacks, you can streamline your space, so you waste less time and energy on the daily. Here are a few hacks to help you achieve a more organized and stress-free life.

1. Set Goals

Before you start the decluttering process, take a moment to identify goals for the space. How do you plan to use it? What habits will you need to adjust in order to achieve those goals? For example, if you’re in the habit of throwing the clothes you take off on the chair in the corner of your bedroom, allowing them to pile up for days at a time, start forcing yourself to throw them in the hamper instead to retrain that bad habit – it’s the first step to a more organized space.

2. Throw Away Trash

Start with something easy like throwing away all the trash and recyclables in the room. Food wrappers, plastic soda bottles, etc. are all easily removed so you can see your belongings underneath and have a better idea of what you’re dealing with.

3. Do You Need It, Want It, or Love It?

Before you can begin organizing your space, you must get rid of some things. Ask yourself, “Do I need it, want it, or love it?” Sometimes we keep things out of habit or guilt, so identify these things and get rid of stuff you no longer want or use.

4. Start Organizing

As you’re going through your things to get rid of what you don’t use anymore, divide the “keep” items into categories. This will help you identify what you have and better organize them later. For example, in the bathroom, your categories may include hair products, makeup, medicines, first aid, and skincare products.

5. Identify Duplicates

As you go through and categorize your belongings, you’ll want to identify any duplicates you have and decide whether you have the space to keep them or not. For example, if your space is limited or you’re stressed about the amount of clutter in your home, you may want to get rid of that two-year supply of hairspray you’ve been collecting.

6. Organize According to Need

To create the most efficient space possible, organize according to need. This means keeping things you use regularly easily accessible while placing things you don’t use all the time up high or in the back.

For instance, in the kitchen, place water glasses and coffee-making supplies near the sink or refrigerator. In the garage, place seasonal sporting equipment in the rafters since you don’t use them all the time.

7. Use Your Vertical Space

Many people forget to use the vertical space they have to their advantage. Whether it’s adding shelving or installing hooks, look for ways to use every inch of your vertical space. You’ll be surprised at how quickly you can find a home for everything just by utilizing the walls in your home for storage.
